What To Expect in SEO in 2013 – Here Comes Penguin 2.0

Matt Cutts has delivered a video on what to expect in search engine optimisation in 2013. It looks like it is set to be another crazy year for the SEO industry and there’s likely to bring down a lot of the “top dogs”. Get ready for another significant search update which will be rolling out within the next few weeks. It is currently being called Penguin 2.0.  Penguin is the part of the Google algorithm that deals with over optimisation and black hat back linking aka web spam. Penguin 2.0 will go deeper than before.

5 things you can do to make sure your site is not brought down.

Look At Your Social Signals

Until recently, the more Facebook likes, re-tweets and Youtube likes you got the better. However Google has caught on to the fact that a lot of people are buying 1000’s of likes, tweets and any other type of shares on sites like Fiverr (for 5 bucks) and cheating the system.

It looks like it may carry less value on the number of likes/shares and there will be more weight on the person’s network. Google can tell whether a persons network is real or fake. It will also check if you are sharing your own post. If not, Google will assume even you think your post is crap.

Get Your Author Rank

Google wants you to link your blog to your Google+ profile, this way they can see what you are writing anywhere on the web. If you haven’t set up your Google+ Author Rank, do it now. See this video to learn how http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qde6XvUxZFw

Keep Content Relevant & Link To Great Sites

When writing content make sure you link to great sites with authority. Google wants to know you are offering relevant good content.

Make sure to keep your content relevant. If your website is about Apples, don’t link to a free money making site.

Don’t Have Your Link In Every Blog

Google knows, if a blogger writes about you, they don’t always link back to your site, so if you are guest posting, don’t always link back to your site. Keep it looking natural.

Don’t over-optimise.

Make sure what you write reads naturally. Don’t put 10 keywords in the first paragraph on every page with only a few keywords in the paragraphs below.

Conclusion:

Always make you always provide  high quality content and make sure user experience is your top priority, this way people:

  • Want to come back to your site
  • Want to bookmark your pages
  • Want to share your site with their friends
